How do I register online?
To register online, fill out the voter registration application at register.votesPA.com.

Am I registered to vote as soon as I submit the online application?
No. Your registration application will be forwarded to your county voter registration office for processing and the information you have provided will be examined. Your county voter registration office will contact you if more information is needed to approve your application. Once your registration is approved, your county voter registration office will mail a voter registration card to your residence.

Can I vote online?
No. The online voter registration process serves only as another tool to register eligible voters and does not substitute or change the voting process at the polls.

Is my personal information secure if I register online?
Yes. The online voter registration application system has been designed with the latest protocols to ensure online data security.

Where can I find the online voter registration application?
The voter registration application can be accessed directly at register.votesPA.com. Links to the site can also be found at www.votesPA.com and www.dos.pa.gov

Do I need a Pennsylvania driver’s license or ID card to apply online?
You do not need a Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card to register online. Applicants with no PennDOT number may upload a digital signature or submit their signature by mail to complete the registration process. Additionally, if you are registering for the first time, or you will be voting for the first time in a precinct, you will need to show an approved form of ID at the polls the first time you vote.

Do I have to sign my voter registration application?
Pennsylvania law permits the use of electronic signatures in all transactions where a handwritten signature may be used. Applicants using online voter registration will be required to affirm that they are qualified voters and may sign their application electronically. However, your voter registration is not complete until your county voter registration office has your written signature on file. If you have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card, your signature on file at PennDOT will be sent to your county voter registration office and attached to your voter record. Applicants who do not provide a PennDOT number or whose information cannot be verified at PennDOT may upload a digital image of their signature, or submit their signature by mail or in person to complete the registration process. Your signed application must either be delivered to your county voter registration office or postmarked no later than the registration deadline.

What if PennDOT does not have my signature on file?
If you were not able to provide or verify your PennDOT driver’s license or PennDOT ID card online, you may upload a digital image of your signature.

Is the deadline for online registration the same as the deadline for registering through other means?
Yes. The voter registration deadline is the same, 30 days before any election.

If I started filling out the online application on the registration deadline day, but didn’t complete it until after midnight, am I too late?
Yes. You must submit the information through the online voter registration website before midnight on the deadline date. If your application is timely, you will receive an application number to track the progress of your application. If it was submitted after the midnight deadline, you will be advised that your registration will be processed for the next election.

Will I get a notification that my application is being processed?
Yes.  Once you submit your online registration application, you will receive an application number. If you provided an email address, this application number will also be emailed to you. This number will allow you to track the application status through the “Find Voter Application Status” application.

Will I be notified when I am officially registered?
Yes.  Your county voter registration office will mail your voter registration card to your residence. If you do not receive your voter registration card within 14 days, you should contact the county voter registration office to check on the status of your application. You can also check the status of your registration at www.votesPA.com.

I am eligible to vote but I am in the military, living abroad or temporarily living outside Pennsylvania. Can I register to vote online?
Yes.  Eligible Pennsylvanians who are in the military or temporarily living outside Pennsylvania can use the online voter registration system as one option to register to vote online. However, military and overseas voters will want to use the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to request an absentee ballot so the county voter registration office can appropriately identify the voter as a military-overseas voter. The FPCA can also be used to register to vote.

Is the online voter registration application available in languages other than English?
Yes. The online voter registration application is currently available in English and Spanish.

Can I complete the online voter registration application on an iPad, tablet or smartphone?
Yes. The online voter registration application is mobile-adaptive.

Can Pennsylvania’s online voter registration application be filled out on third-party websites?
No. There are other websites that may allow you to download or request a traditional mail-in voter registration form. However, the online registration process can only be accessed through the official Pennsylvania application at register.votesPA.com.

Can the state’s online voter registration application be used at third-party voter registration drives?
Yes.  Online voter registration is a tool that third-party groups can use to help voters register.

Can I use the state’s online voter registration application to update my voter registration information?
Yes. Through the online registration site, you can change your name, address, party affiliation, and whether you need assistance to vote.

If I have problems with the online registration application, who should I contact?
For assistance, call 1-877-VOTESPA (1-877-868-3772). Or check our step-by-step instructional video.

After submitting your application without a verified PennDOT driver’s license number or ID card, you will receive a message offering three options:

  1. Edit your information;
  2. Upload a signature; or
  3. Print, sign and mail your application.

Selecting Option 2 gives you the ability to upload a digital image of your signature which reduces the delays that occur with mailing your application. Your uploaded signature image will be sent electronically at the same time your application is submitted.

You also have the option to request a signature form from the Department of State. It is important to note that if you request a signature form or select Option 3 to print, sign and mail your application, your written signature must be received by your county voter registration office before you are permitted to vote. Your printed and signed application or completed signature form must either be delivered to your county voter registration office or postmarked no later than the registration deadline.

Who can upload their signature electronically?

  1. Sign your name on plain white, non-glossy paper;
  2. Use black or blue ink;
  3. If you are taking a photo, make sure there is good lighting; and
  4. Do not scan or photograph your driver’s license or ID.

If you are using a mobile device to fill out the application, the signature upload feature will prompt you to photograph your signature and upload it directly. If you are using a desktop or laptop, it is easiest to upload your signature by capturing a photo with your phone and

emailing the image to yourself so you can save it to your computer. You will be prompted to browse to select the file that contains your signature.

The signature upload option works very well with mobile devices.

How do I upload a digital image of my signature?
You can upload your signature digitally through the online voter registration application. To upload an image of your signature, we recommend the following:
The signature upload option is only available to users who are not verified through PennDOT.
